Okay, I tried finishing the book, but I just couldn’t. I loved how it started, but it was just downhill from there. Not only is there an abundance of grammatical and redundancy issues, it feels the author is emptily repeating advice from other sources without adding anything of value. I also want to point out that there are in-text citations without references for those citations to be used. Strange? Yes. In college, this is known as plagiarism. If this was really research, there would be a page dedicated for sources from which the author gathered info, but there’s only a “summary page.” Even worse, the author claims to have a Master’s in Psychology, a field known for its rigorous demands for research and efficient writing skills, but fails to show any of those skills within the book. I’m very disappointed because the material for the book cover is well-made, but the formatting and everything inside is just poorly put together.Also, the amount of 5-star reviews with repetitive praise is pretty suspicious, let alone this being my third attempt of trying to post my review.Please do yourself a favor and save your money. This book is probably one of the most comprehensive books on learning out there. Not only did I learn about productive failure and how scaffolding is problematic, but I saw how strategies that I've always taken for granted, such as scaffolding and highlighting, do not work. This book also busts the myth of there being different 'learning styles' - which was news to me. Lastly, I like how the book gives concrete examples of how to make learning secondary and fun ("gamification"). To top it off, each chapter ends with a bulleted list of main points, as does the book as a whole. Strongly recommend!
